Book publication services of the University Library

Support in the publication of Open Access monographs and edited collections

A book, please!

The book publication services of the University Library are available to members of the University of Stuttgart. Service levels range from advice to free publication alternatives and funding solutions.

We will be happy to advise you on your publication project open to results. Possible topics for Open Access books:

  • What does Open Access mean for books?
  • What should I look out for in cost offers from publishers and service providers?
  • How do I recognize dubious offers?
  • Which funding options are there?
  • Which publication alternatives are available at the University of Stuttgart?

For 2024 and 2025, Open Access books (monographs and edited collections) can be funded with up to 5,000 Euro from the Publication Fund of the University of Stuttgart if the publication is result of a DFG project.

  • Edited volumes are eligible for funding if the editors are members of the University of Stuttgart and the entire volume is published in Open Access.
  • Individual articles in edited collections are not eligible for funding.

Is a cost offer too expensive? We advise you on alternative funding options.

REQUEST FORM FUNDING OA BOOKS

Through the co-publishing partnership with the British academic publisher Ubiquity Press, members of the University of Stuttgart have the opportunity to publish books, also in German. The following series are available:

  • Stuttgart University Textbooks
  • Stuttgart University Monographs
  • Stuttgart University Proceedings
  • Stuttgart University Reports (publication of project results)

At the present, no costs can be covered. DFG projects are an exception. Together with the publisher, customized cost offers are prepared (Book Processing Charges, BPC). The Open Access team supports the publication process.

Ubiquity Press

With the OPUS publication server, the University Library offers a free option for publishing Open Access books. This is the recommended method for dissertations.

OPUS

This form is intended for members of the University of Stuttgart who are considering publishing academic publications in book format in co-operation with the University Library and would like to obtain a non-binding offer and/or arrange an initial consultation.

Strategic partnerships

The book publication services of the University Library were developed within the BMBF joint project TU9_Monos (2021-2023). They are part of the Diamond Open Access strategy which aims to expand the University’s own publication infrastructure. Together with Ubiquity Press, Open Access series have been developed to ensure the best possible quality standards. The strategic partnership for the services also includes the university publisher KIT Scientific Publishing which provides its many years of know-how.

The first Open Access book to be published in June 2023 is a legal opinion produced as part of the “Xsample” project:

  • Kleinkopf, F.L., 2023. London: Ubiquity Press. DOI: https://doi.org/10.5334/bcu
